Northern Mindanao Extreme Adventure! PART 4

DAY 4 AND 5: CAGAYAN DE ORO
One activity in Cagayan De Oro you definitely cannot go without  is white water rafting! When we booked us a flight last June, I hurriedly checked the different CDO white water rafting companies on the internet. I was a bit worried because all I can see are packages for a minimum of 10 people. Good thing one of my college classmates went there and told me that Red Rafts take in odd numbers, they will just include you in other groups. Allan of Red Rafts (+63922913106) was courteous enough and texted me the details, he told me our call time will be 7am in the morning at Coffee Works, infront of Dunkin Donuts in Divisoria. I told him we're only beginners but he replied that there will be no beginner course and its perfectly safe if we go with the pro. I agreed and thought, if former president Gloria Arroyo was able to do it, why can't we, right?

Plaza Divisoria is just a jeepney away from our hotel in Cogon Market. Every weekend this place transforms into a night market, which was a bummer because I originally thought it will be available after our rafting experience (which was a Sunday). Allan told me that Divisoria Night Market only happens every Friday and Saturday night. Oh well.

On our way!

Red raft shirt, hehe.
It seemed that we were accompanying a large number of employees from a local company, but Allan  told us that there were also three odd participants from Manila (like us!) which will in fact be our white water team mates! I was also happy to learn that Allan and another guide will be with us on the raft. Allan that day was the head guide which means our raft will go first on every rapid. All in all we will be rafting our way through 22 rapids which ranges from Class 1 to 4, class 1 being the easiest.
That's Allan giving out the orientation

Our team mates! Yes they are oldies! hehe.

Here are some of the pictures we got from the Red Rafts Photography. That cost P1500 per raft and since we are 5, we paid 300 each for our own copy. You will not be allowed to bring any valuable possession in the river since we're talking about boulders, rocks, water and rapids here.
It was a 3hour adrenaline rush! . One of our oldie teammates prefer screaming than rowing the boat, hehe. Allan was an entertaining guide giving us pieces of general knowledge, useful techniques and a lot of jokes which made the journey super fun! There were also parts of the river where we were allowed to swim, in fact Allan made us swim our way to the riverbank after the rapids.
And a well-deserved lunch after that!
suka pinakurat, an iligan specialty!
Chicken barbeque, buttered shrimp and grilled fish!
How my body ached after that experience, We decided to remove Iligan on our itinerary  the next day in fear that we might not reach Lumbia airport on time. We just spent the remaining hours exploring the city, we went to Limketkai Mall after rafting and walked around SM Cagayan De Oro just before our flight back to Manila.

For 5 days, we spent a total of P12, 820 travel and accommodation expenses minus food and pasalubong. Pwede na!
